💼 Career Exploration Club for Refugee Youth

Empowering Futures for Refugee Students in Dallas

This club is designed for refugee middle and high school students living in Dallas, Texas, with the goal of introducing them to a wide range of career opportunities and helping them plan for their futures in a meaningful and realistic way.

🔹 Phase 1: Career Discovery

In the first phase of the program, students explore various careers available in the United States. They learn what kind of college majors and academic backgrounds are required for different professions.
For example, if a student is interested in becoming a nurse, we introduce the subjects they need to focus on—such as biology and chemistry—and explain what it means to major in nursing in college.

🔹 Phase 2: Creative Exploration

In the second phase, students express their career interests through creative, hands-on activities. They might draw a picture or create a simple model or project that reflects the career they are curious about. These activities help them visualize their future and think more deeply about their goals.

👥 Real-Life Guest Speakers

One of the most impactful parts of the program is inviting professionals working in various fields to speak with the students.
In the first half of 2025, we hosted a nurse and an IT manager as guest speakers. They shared why they chose their careers, what they studied, and what their daily work looks like. The students listened with great interest and had the opportunity to ask questions directly.

After the guest speaker sessions, we conducted a survey to see how students felt about the experience. A significant number of students reported that the sessions were very helpful and said the talks had a positive influence on their career thinking.

🌟 Why It Matters

Through this program, refugee students:

  • Gain knowledge of real career options in the U.S.

  • Understand educational paths and requirements

  • Build confidence through creativity and engagement

  • Are inspired by professionals who were once in their shoes

We believe that by providing both information and inspiration, students can begin to shape their future with clarity and confidence.
